What is continuation of Pay (Cop)?

Continuation of Pay or COP is a benefit for eligible federal workers that have experienced a traumatic injury. This benefit allows you to receive your regular pay for up to 45 calendar days and is intended to be a bridge until you can get your Workers’ Compensation (OWCP) wage loss claim accepted so that you are not without pay in the meantime.

When should cop be paid?

COP must be paid and the days counted against the 45 days authorized by law whenever an actual reduction of pay results from the injury, including a reduction of pay for the employee's normal administrative workweek that results from a change or diminution in his or her duties following an injury.

What is cop & how does it work?

COP, or Continuation of Pay, is a benefit that allows for a federal employee to receive up to 45 calendar days of their regular pay due to disability. This benefit is paid as salary rather than compensation and is subject to typical payroll deductions like retirement contributions and income taxes.
